The expansion of photovoltaic systems will increase significantly in the next few years, and so will the feed-in to the low-voltage grid. For example, the German government plans to quadruple the number of solar power feeders currently connected to the grid. At the same time, the use of heat pump heating systems and new registrations of e-vehicles are rising rapidly. Overall, this means that there are completely new influences on the low-voltage networks that were not taken into account in their planning and thus make it necessary to adapt the network infrastructure. Legislators have already recognized this, which is reflected in the increasing regulatory pressure regarding the stabilization and digitalization of distribution grids. Accordingly, investments in low-voltage networks are urgently needed, but should be planned as purposefully as possible, not least because of the declining return on equity on network investments. The availability of live digital data from the network is therefore indispensable.
The digitalization of distribution networks can be implemented cost-effectively through the use of IoT applications. For this purpose, the existing cable distribution stations and local network stations are replaced by digital network operating equipment or expanded with the help of intelligent sensor technology. An example of the latter is the integrated metering bar from our partner EBG, which can be easily retrofitted. The digitally recorded network data is transmitted wirelessly and with BSI-compliant TLS encryption via LoRaWAN or NB-IoT.
Our IoT service platform IoTree aggregates and visualizes the network data and supports you in the efficient management of your digital network resources. The large number of standardized interfaces also enables the connection of third-party systems such as the network control room or an energy management system. Thanks to intelligent control rules, anomalies in the network are detected at an early stage and can be remedied efficiently and promptly.
